How to stay motivated in Nursing School

We’re going to do something a little different today. Nursing school is hard and sometimes it is hard to study for your next test, get ready for your clinical, and prepare for the NCLEX, all at the same time. Here are some steps to help keep you motivated.

Remind yourself why – Everyone has a reason why they want to be a nurse. It could be that you want to help people, or find a job, pay off bills, the reasons are numerous. Everyone is different and unique. When I started I wanted to have a job that would allow me to provide income for my family. Take a moment and remind yourself why you started on this adventure. Now I want you to take some post it notes and write out that reason. Put these post it notes where you can see them – first thing in the morning, where you study, on your book back, and on the inside cover of your notebook. If you ever feel like you can’t take it anymore, glance at the note, close your eyes and imagine where you’ll be five or ten years from now. Then start studying again.

Hang out with positive people – the people you around can influence how you feel. If you’re around negative people all day, then pretty soon you’ll be negative too.

Remind yourself that it will all be over sooner than you think. It helps to remind yourself sometime that there are 8 weeks left in this semester.

Hopefully this will help you stay motivated through the rest of this semester and beyond. What helps you stay motivated, let us know in the comments.
