Standard Conversion Factors

  • 1 fl. Oz. = 30 mL
  • 1 Tbs = 15 mL
  • 1 Tbs = 3 tsp
  • 1 gr = 60 mg

Subcutaneous Injections

  • Small doses of non-irritating, water-soluble medication
  • Use short, fine-gauge needle (3/85/8, 25-27 ga.) @45º-90º
  • No more than 1.5 mL of solution

Intramuscular Injections

  • Used for irritating solutions, solutions in oils, and aqueous suspensions
  • Use 18-27 ga needle (usual = 22-25 ga), 1-1.5” long @ 90º
  • Volume = 1-3 mL
