Pharmacological & Parenteral Therapies — Dosage Calculations

We continue with Pharmacological topics – today we wanted to review Dosage Calculations.

I hope you are having an awesome day. Todays topic is dosage calculations. I have tutored a ton of nursing students. We do a math test at the beginning of tutoring, if they pass it, we don’t talk about it anymore. If they don’t we then figure out what they need help with. If you know the math, you can just skip todays topic. If you don’t then dive in.

Dosage calculations in the NCLEX is kind of funny. Some of our students have had no dosage calculations at all. Some have had it – some have had four or five (usually mixed into the question). There are many different places on the internet with math problems to review. Chapter 17 in Saunders covers the topic well.

You’ll want to make sure you can do the following:

1.Perform calculations needed for medication administration.

2.Use clinical decision making/critical thinking when calculating dosages

Here is a great video – dosage calc – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IiP21-ZnPEg

My favorite IV medications video.
